"Pizza Amore" deals with getting over the pain of separation and self pity. The protagonist, Hannes, is left by his ex-girl friend for another. During his odyssey through the lonely, nocturnal city, Hannes slowly overcomes his self pity and is capable of standing up to his ex-girl friend during a further, unintended confrontation.
I think many people can identify with the humiliation of the protagonist at the beginning of the movie. Perhaps it is the airiness of the movie and the minor victory of the antihero, that made this movie such a success with the public.
"Pizza Amore“ was shown at numerous festivals, where it was awarded prizes primarily by the public. This short was also presented at international festivals such as the European-Asian Film Festival in Washington. During the Summer of 2008 Pizza Amore was broadcast a number of times by Bavarian Public Television.

"... This movie filmed on location in Stuttgart depicts how a young man is abandoned by his girl friend only to experience an absurd and comical, new amorous adventure with a pizza delivery girl. In spite of the short length of the film, the director succeeds in awaking a feeling of epic duration; moreover the brilliant, flowing, dramatic elegiac music imparts an imperative suggestivity to the images."
From an article in "Die Anmut einer Stuttgarter Romanze", Stuttgarter Nachrichten
"... "Pizza Amore" is an eccentric, humorous short, relating grand emotions with minor gestures. A charming story from real life – one that any of us could experience. With a great deal of empathy and effortlessness Director Achim Wendel depicts the experiences of an abandoned man, who, as a pizza boy against his will, survives an odyssey through an insane night and learns persistence. The acting and film editing deserve particular distinction."
